Job overview
We are delighted to invite applications for a Clinical Fellow in Musculoskeletal Oncology commencing from August 2026 for 12 months.
This Oswestry Musculoskeletal Oncology Clinical Fellowship post is designed to accommodate a CT3/ST3 clinical fellowship doctor with a view to supporting advancement into orthopaedic training. A doctor who has completed or is completing their MRCS. The doctor will contribute to the provision of MSK oncology orthopaedic surgery within the Trust. The Fellowship can be designed around the training needs of the successful applicant.
Main duties of the job
The Musculoskeletal Tumour Service at RJAH is one of the five Bone Sarcoma units commissioned by NHS England. It provides a comprehensive service in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumours. It also provides a metastatic bone service. It is part of the Greater Manchester and Oswestry Sarcoma Service (GMOSS) along with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
This appointment is to join the existing team of 3 consultants. The Montgomery Unit, a purpose built Musculoskeletal Oncology Unit, opened in 2016. It has a clinic suite of 3 consulting rooms, a treatment room, physiotherapy room, reception area, consultants office/conference room, secretarial and nursing offices.
Within the same new build is Oswald Ward which has ten single bed en-suite rooms, Baschurch Day Surgical Unit and the High Dependency Unit.
The placement is for a post graduate orthopaedic surgeon who has a commitment to a career in orthopaedic surgery. There are opportunities to be involved in medical education, audit and research.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Support out-patient clinics.
2. Assist in theatre lists, with potential for access to other theatre lists to extend your experience in orthopaedics
3. Assessment of new patients, with consultant supervision.
4. Clerk admissions where required and be the primary responsible middle grade doctor for the day-to-day care of in-patients.
5. Attendance to ward rounds with senior fellow and specialist nurses.
6. Discharge requirements for in-patients.
7. To assist with any other aspects of patient care as appropriate.
8. To support in surgical planning, and assist in clinic preparation and MDT duties.
9. To participate in audit and research.
Rota
Duties will be Monday to Friday with time flexibility required within a normal working day. The is no hospital oncall requirement with this post.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current and active GMC registration with license to practice and no restrictions to practice
Experience, Skills and Competancies
Essential criteria
- Experience working in an acute orthopaedic setting
- Able to demonstrate basic general surgery and orthopaedic surgery competence to the level of core surgical training
- Able to demonstrate competency in managing the care of a deteriorating patient
- Able to provide basic preoperative and post-operative care
Training
Essential criteria
- Comprehensive general medical training to meet specialty doctor entry requirements.
Academic achievement, research and publication. Teaching experience.
