Oral Health Improvement Practitioner Assistant

We are expanding our Oral Health Improvement Service following recent government funding to support the rollout of supervised toothbrushing programmes in nurseries and schools across areas of highest need. We are seeking enthusiastic and committed Oral Health Improvement Practitioner – Assistants to join our growing team.

Main duties of the job
Our Oral Health Improvement Service operates across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, Staffordshire, and Stoke-on-Trent, delivering a range of evidence-based programmes commissioned by NHS England. These include supervised toothbrushing in early years settings and oral health initiatives in care homes. We work closely with partners in health, education, social care, and the voluntary sector to reduce oral health inequalities and promote lifelong oral health.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Level 3 Certificate of the Examining Board of Dental Nurses Certificate in Oral Health Promotion or equivalent qualification. OR Level 3 public health qualification or equivalent experience in public health OR Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent training qualification or experience PLUS Level 3 Diploma Level qualification or equivalent experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in the delivery of oral health improvement sessions within the dental setting to patients individually or in small groups OR Experience of working within Early Years, school or care home settings OR Experience in training or teaching in health or dental related field
- Experience of working with vulnerable, disadvantaged individuals or communities to improve health and reduce inequalities.
- Experience of team and partnership working
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of aetiology and prevention of main dental diseases
- Some understanding of health/oral health improvement principles and practices
- Able to describe simple oral health projects
- Good organisational and time management skills and the ability to work to flexibly as required and to fixed deadlines
- Ability to motivate and support others

- Must be able to meet the travel needs of the post
