Our Poppy’s Promise Commitment

We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team —  clinical or non-clinical — plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.

We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.

Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.

By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values — ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.

Job overview

Are you a pharmacy technician looking for a role where you can make a difference in your community? Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust is expanding our Virtual Ward service and we’re looking for a Pharmacy Technician to join our growing Pharmacy team.

Our Virtual Ward provides hospital-level care to patients in their own homes, supporting conditions such as respiratory, cardiology, and frailty. The aim is to prevent avoidable hospital admissions and enable early discharge, ensuring patients receive high-quality care in the comfort of their familiar surroundings.

Main duties of the job

As a pharmacy technician within the virtual ward team, you’ll play a key role in supporting safe and effective medication management. You will:

-          - Provide high-quality pharmaceutical and technical services directly to Virtual Ward patients.

-         -  Participate in medication reviews and clinical audits.

-          - Play a crucial role in medication management during care transitions into and out of the Virtual Ward environment.

-          - Conduct home visits to patients in their own homes or care settings to offer holistic pharmaceutical care and assess medicines concordance.

-          - Collaborate with the MDT to develop and enhance the pharmacy services provided by our virtual wards.

You will work alongside an experienced Senior Pharmacy Technician, who will mentor and develop you, and have the support of the Principal Pharmacist for Virtual Wards.

For pharmacy technicians that are eligible for registration with GPhC, but do not match the person specification, we are able to offer suitable candidates a position in our pharmacy technician development program which would allow us to appoint you at Band 4 with progression to Band 5 once you have successfully completed all of your competencies.
