Consultant Cardiologist with interest in Pacing and Devices

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

Encompassing some of the most picturesque parts of England and Wales, the Trust’s catchment stretches from the Cambrian Mountains in the west, to Newport and the fringes of the Black Country in the east. The main towns include: Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Whitchurch (in Shropshire); Newport, Telford and Wellington (in Telford & Wrekin); and Newtown and Welshpool (in Powys) – all beautiful and unique.

Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury. Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cardiologist looking for a substantive position with a special interest in pacing and devices at our Trust. We are looking to appoint a colleague who is specialised in device implantation including complex pacing, defibrillators and with experience in conduction system pacing. We welcome applications from colleagues who have other areas of interest too. The successful candidate will join an established device service to further expand the service. The Trust is going through an exciting redevelopment at present and is ambitious in its outlook for the Cardiology service. The successful candidate will play a key role in this re-development. In addition, they will join an ambitious and supportive team of colleagues.

·       Provide continued care both in the inpatient and outpatient setting

·       Supervision of Higher Specialty Trainees in Internal Medicine, IMT stage one trainees and Clinical fellows working towards CESR in GIM.

·       To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team

·       To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners

·       To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways

Working for our organisation

Our Poppy’s Promise Commitment

We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team —  clinical or non-clinical — plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.

We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising  individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.

Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a  meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.

By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values — ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate, Clinical Director and consultant colleagues, on behalf of the Medical Director within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week including 1 additional PA for the out of hours work. The job plan will be reviewed annually and is a prospective agreement that sets out the consultant's duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external and will include personal objectives, detailing links to wider service improvements and trust strategic priorities.
