Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for 2 Healthcare Assistant to join our amazing team on Ward 8 Head and Neck at the Princess Royal Hospital.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, kind, caring and compassionate individual to support with the high standard of care delivered on the ward.
A flexible nature is required and previous healthcare experience would be desirable, however this is not essential.
The ward includes a 14 bedded inpatient area with the addition of a treatment room.
Ward 8 is primarily a Head and Neck ward specialising in ENT and Maxillofacial, supporting a range of surgical patients both pre and post operatively in addition to providing emergency and trauma care.
Main duties of the job
- To work as part of the ward/department team delivering excellent patient care.
- Monitoring patients and performing basic health check
- Serving meals and helping to feed patients
- Provide support to patients to maintain their hygiene needs. This may include actions such as:
- Bathing/washing
- Care of mouth, hair, nails and eyes
- Provide support to maintain their elimination needs. This may include actions such as:
- Encouraging continence
- Emptying urinary catheter bags
- Mobilising to toilet or use of commode or bedpan
- Maintaining hygiene needs after episodes of incontinence

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE in Maths and English grade 3-1 ( D-G) Functional Skills L1 or higher
Desirable criteria
- GCSE in Maths and English grade 9-4 ( A – C) Functional Skills L2 or higher
- Level 2 Diploma in clinical Healthcare support NVQ Level 2 in Care or demonstrate a commitment to work towards the diploma qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Can demonstrate an understanding, through personal statement and interview, of what is required within the role of a Health Care Assistant in the care setting
Desirable criteria
- Previous hospital experience
- Can describe the Trust Values and demonstrate how they put these in to practice within their caring role
- Formal or informal care experience
