Job overview
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust provides Level 2 Neonatal Services. We have 22 cots, 3 ITU, 3HDU, and 16 special care cots.
We are looking for an passionate Trainee Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) to join our Neonatal service and advanced practitioners team.
This demanding role requires passionate, highly motivated, with excellent communication skills who strives for the delivery of high quality care to our neonates and their families.
You will demonstrate safe critical decision-making skills whilst working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of premature and sick new born babies. The team works a medical model assisting to cover the service 24/7.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of this role is to develop a clear pathway of progression, training, and career structure for Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners. This role will encompass a 7-day working pattern with an element of shift work and after-hours working. This post will develop to a Band 8a upon completion of a Masters in Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practice, and completion of an Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification. The post holder will also be required to undergo a wide range of core clinical competencies and case presentations within the area of practice.
This is a fixed term contract of 18 months which will progress to a permanent post up to completion of the course.
You will be expected to attend the University of Southampton and complete the full-time pathway MSC Advanced Clinical Practice (Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner) commencing September 2024.
Please note: Candidates that do not hold a full degree will be expected to complete a portfolio of work set by the university prior to commencement of the course.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/Registered Children Nurse/ Registered midwife
- Qualified in Speciality neonatal course
- Evidence of significant post registration senior nursing experience in a relevant speciality.
- Evidence of education to Degree level
Desirable criteria
- Neonatal life Support (NLS) Instructor
- Studied to masters level
Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of all aspects of the nursing care of critically ill newborn infants
- Relevant experience in a neonatal setting at a band 6 or above
- Experience of leading and managing a team of nurses
Desirable criteria
- Experience of handling clinical incidents and complaints
- Knowledge of using emergency equipment specific within the neonatal environment
