 Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership (AWP) NHS Trust is delighted to offer an opportunity work within our new Oliver McGowan training team as a Trainer with Lived experience of Learning disability or autism.

We are looking for trainers with experience of delivering this programme and who have knowledge of the requirements of a trainer with lived experience.

You will be training flexibly and up to 2 times a week as part of a small team supported by a facilitator in a range of locations across the Bath/ Bristol, South Gloucester and North Somerset footprint.

Training will take the form of half day face to face training with a facilitator or 1 hour MS TEAMS sessions to clinical and non-clinical AWP staff.

You should be able to engage with staff, training  confidently using your own lived experience, in a professional manner. 

The role will involve being able to travel to locations across the foot print described above.  If carer support  is needed for transport - any  expenses can be funded.

Main duties of the job

This role is within the Learning and Development team, who are responsible for facilitating learning and development for the Avon and Wiltshire NHS Mental Health partnership Workforce in the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire and Banes , Swindon and Wiltshire areas. The Trainer with Lived experience is responsible for co-delivering the learning disability and autism training to people who work in AWP across the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire region and Banes areas.

This training is called The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism.

As a trainer with lived experience, you will have an in-depth understanding of learning disability or autism, and you will have previous experience of delivering training to staff. 

Your time will focus on leading and supporting expert with lived experience co-trainers who will be autistic people and people with a learning disability. Along with the Trainer facilitator you will deliver training to health and social care staff across the BNSSG area.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

General Duties

Role models exemplary behaviour in terms of conduct, attitude, performance, when delivering The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism.

Work with other co-facilitators/trainers to deliver training sessions. The sessions will use a range of methods, including traditional training delivery, group discussions, and film.

Take part in training and rehearsals to develop skills and confidence to deliver great training.

Make sure that they are in the right place at the right time, and well prepared to deliver training sessions.

Be professional, friendly and welcoming to people coming to the training.

Work with the rest of the team to look at what is working well in the training and what could be improved.

Work as part of a team to deliver the standardised package of training to delegates.

Help to change training schedules and plans if necessary to respond to unexpected issues.

Travel to training venues across the region.

Work flexibly to deliver planned training sessions at evenings or weekends, with agreement.

Demonstrates the ability to co-deliver training sessions.  The sessions will utilise a range of methods, including traditional training delivery, group discussions, and film.

Demonstrates best practice delivering training.

Regularly teaches as a co-trainer large groups – multi-professional, multi-agency.

Employs learning interventions that are learner centred.

Along with the Facilitator of the sessions, ensures some of the learning outcomes are achieved.

Along with the Facilitator of the sessions, recognises and addresses the needs of individuals during and after the session.

Appropriately challenges poor practice.

Identifies trends and issues, escalating and acting on these as appropriate.

Identifies and proposes change to working practices and procedures, as required. 

Understand and respond to a range of queries and challenges from delegates during training, identifying the correct response.

Attends meetings and training to develop relevant skills and knowledge and ensure consistent and high-quality delivery.

Proactively reflects on own practice to improve performance.

Carries out a range of tasks to support monitoring and evaluation.
