Job overview
This is a great time to join the Cardiac Centre at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. Our pacemaker service includes complex CRT, ICD and physiological pacing implants and follow - up. We have a rapidly expanding remote monitoring service. We also offer Physiologist led ILR implants.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to be a key player within this service, this will be an opportunity to expand your managerial responsibilities and experience.
The successful candidate should hold a recognised Device qualification such as BHRS / IBHRE / EHRA. You should have experience as a cardiac physiologist/healthcare scientist and will have completed relevant Cardiology qualification. If you are working on a recognised device qualification a developmental role will be considered.
Experience working in Cardiology technical services will be required, both invasive and non-invasive investigations and procedures.

Main duties of the job
Technical
- To be an independent practitioner at a specialist technical level managing simple and complex cardiac devices at implant and follow up. Includes ILR
- To be competent in performing this to a high standard according to departmental and BHRS guidelines. To optimise device programming and liaise with and report to medical staff wherever required.
- Record all device implants and follow ups appropriately following departmental guidelines
- Perform and report home monitoring for all devices ensuring appropriate management of results, liaison with medical staff and device programming where required.
- Ensure Devices email queries are managed within an appropriate timeframe following department guidelines for transfers/MRI/radiotherapy/surgery and any other issues / queries addressed to this email or to the department.
- Be responsible for managing stock
- Provide physiologist support for all Cardiac Cath lab procedures including PCI, left and right heart angiography, IABP.
- Undertake all non-invasive cardiology investigations
Operational
- To be responsible for the day to day running of the area which they are working including room checks, equipment checks and room stock checks.
- To be familiar and competent with departmental IT systems and electronic patient records.
Managerial
- To participate in training for other members of the team wherever required.
- To participate in delivering appraisals and management of staff.

Essential criteria
- BSc/PTP/STP in Cardiology
- Completed or willingness to work towards BHRS/IBHRE/ERHA
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Extensive practical experience in Simple and Complex pacing implants and follow up / patient management.
- Specialist knowledge of Cardiac Device implantation and follow up.
- Able to apply theoretical knowledge appropriately in a patient care setting.
- Able to work independently and manage diagnostic results appropriately, within departmental guidelines.
- Extensive practical experience in general technical cardiology, both invasive and non-invasive.
Desirable criteria
- Able to use Trust and generic IT systems such as patient data management systems, Microsoft. Able to keep patient records/ department records appropriately.
- Echocardiography
Skills
Essential criteria
- Specialist knowledge of cardiac implanted devices and their management, using full range of manufacturers programmers and equipment.
- Able to perform the range of Cardiology investigations including ECG application, manual BP measurement, setting up work areas and investigation rooms, able to physically manage echocardiography, adequate eyesight to see programmers / ECG traces/ echo images.
