You’ll begin with our “New to Care” induction programme, designed to help you settle into life at the Royal United Hospitals Bath. Eager to learn and develop new skills
Motivated to build a meaningful career in healthcare

Main duties of the job

Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) is a key member of the cardiac ward team, delivering high‑quality, compassionate care to adults with acute and chronic cardiac conditions. Working under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals, you will provide personal care, assist with clinical tasks, support patient monitoring, and help maintain a safe, effective ward environment.

This is a busy role so you will be working together with your team to balance different tasks that often change. Your daily duties will be varied to include:

·       blood pressure monitoring

·       oxygen saturation levels

·       body temperature

·       pulse rate and respiration rate

·       glucose monitoring,

·       collection and testing of urine, faecal and sputum samples

·       wound swabs

·       removal of catheters

·       venepuncture

·       recording your actions accurately in patient notes

Working as part of a team and on your own, you will draw from your knowledge, skills and experience.

We are passionate about patient experience. We know that some people find coming into hospital difficult.

Adapting how you communicate to meet the needs of patients, relatives, carers as well as colleagues with kindness and compassion is fundamental to how we work together. You will take care in handling patient and Trust property and may need to order supplies and restock.

You will help to support, train and welcome new colleagues, students and others to your area of work.

There will be opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills, specific to your needs and area of work.

Working for our organisation

We are proud to be part of BSW Hospitals Group - a formal partnership between the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. We are creating a health and care system that works with the people we care for, reducing the differences people currently face in access, experience and outcomes, improving the experience of our colleagues and tackling shared challenges like sustainability and finances. Every improvement we make across our Group will be guided by what creates the greatest benefit for our colleagues, our patients, our communities and our partners.

By working together, we make a real difference for our patients, each other, and our community. Every role matters in delivering the exceptional, person‑centred care we’re proud of.

We’re committed to a compassionate, inclusive culture where kindness is championed, differences are valued, and diversity makes us stronger.
