Cyber Security Technician

Band 6

Job overview

In this important role you will provide technical support for the Trust’s network infrastructure, contributing to information assurance and cybersecurity operations, and will report to the Cyber Security Manager.

Main duties of the job

Your main duties will include:

·       Be responsible for seeking out any potential vulnerability, both internally and externally, and proposing and implementing solutions to prevent breaches of information security.

·       Develop and manage the Trust’s Information Risk Register.

·       Work as part of a team responsible for providing responsive, technical and mission-critical services to contribute to the design, development, deployment and security of IT systems.

·       Due to the highly technical nature of this post there will be also a requirement to undertake configuration, tuning, troubleshooting, recovery fault resolution and in-depth technical fault diagnosis and problem solving.

·       Use their extensive knowledge of IT systems to deliver third line support for all Trust IM&T Services.

·       Monitor for vulnerabilities, potential attacks and intrusions to IT infrastructure.

·       Close off any security vulnerabilities when a potential threat or attempted breach is identified.

·       Maintain current specialist knowledge of professional cyber security and technical infrastructure development including relevant industry standard methodologies, tools and techniques.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated in relevant subject or equivalent level qualification or significant experience of working at a similar level in Information Security.
Desirable criteria
  • Project Management Skills (PRINCE2 or APM PMQ)
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) via GCHQ Certified Training (GCT)

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of security improvement programs within the NHS.
  • Demonstrates considerable experience of working within a technical discipline e.g. Cloud Services, server & workstation, Active Directory Administration, Group Policy Object creation, virtualisation, firewall support, digital security tools and general 3rd line support activities.
  • Experience of developing and delivering an Information Security service to a large complex organisation using confidential and/or sensitive information.
  • Prior experience performing security reviews, audits and risk assessments.
