Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist

Consultant

Job overview

The Royal United Hospitals Bath (RUH) is looking to recruit a dedicated and forward-thinking Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist to join our dynamic and highly motivated Gynaecological Oncology team.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an energetic, innovative and cohesive department that provides comprehensive sub-specialist care in gynaecological oncology. In this key role, you will make a difference by delivering high-quality clinical services and contributing to the continued development of our expanding oncology provision.

We are proud to have launched our Gynaecological Oncology Sub-Specialty Training Programme, with our first trainee now in post. The appointed consultant will have regular access to our da Vinci robotic surgical platforms, supporting the delivery of advanced minimally invasive surgery. Additionally, RUH Bath is home to the only HIPEC and PIPAC programme in the South-West, now successfully running for over a year.

Our Obstetrics & Gynaecology department is nationally recognised for excellence in training. We recently received top accolades in all four categories of the Training Evaluation Form (TEF) survey in the medium-sized hospital category. Regionally, we are consistently ranked in the top three, and nationally within the top ten.

Main duties of the job

Our Gynaecological Oncology Service benefits from a well-established and collaborative multi-disciplinary team. Medical oncology support is led by Dr Rebecca Bowen and Dr Lucy Dumas, while clinical oncology, including radiotherapy services at the RUH, is overseen by Dr Emma De Winton, Dr Jen Van Griethuysen and Dr Nathalie Webber.

Surgical services are bolstered by a dedicated anaesthetic and intensive care team. The robotic surgery programme, under the leadership of Ellen Nelissen, provides state-of-the-art minimally invasive treatment options. Complex surgical care is further supported by a specialist colorectal team, led by John Bunni, facilitating joint procedures including colorectal anastomosis as part of radical cytoreductive surgeries.

Patients benefit from the support of experienced Clinical Nurse Specialists throughout their diagnostic, treatment, and follow-up pathways. Pathological expertise is provided by specialist gynaecological pathologists Dr Pinias Mukonoweshuro and Dr Sarah Johnson, ensuring robust diagnostic input for our multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.

Comprehensive radiological services include CT, PET-CT, and SPECT-CT for sentinel node localisation, with a dedicated team of gynaecological radiologists led by Dr Kelly MacDonald providing expert imaging support.

Working for our organisation

At the RUH we’re proud to put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community. We value staff wellbeing, with a well-established programme of support. We believe in a holistic approach spanning all aspects of living a healthy life, including physical, emotional, spiritual and financial wellbeing. We’ve even got a pool!

We are committed to supporting you and hope you want to join our team.
