Job overview
Are you an experienced and enthusiastic musculoskeletal outpatient Physiotherapist with Hydrotherapy training? This substantive role offers a great opportunity to lead the Hydrotherapy service, delivering high level patient care both in the water and on land, within the Brownsword Therapies Centre.
Main duties of the job
In this role, you will;
- To manage hydrotherapy to ensure safe treatment of patients in and out of water.
- To be the Specialist Physiotherapist for Hydrotherapy to facilitate movement and independence for patients with a range of complex musculoskeletal conditions.
- To be responsible for planning, co-ordinating, delivering, evaluating and developing the Hydrotherapy service throughout the Trust, on a day to day basis.
- Hold an individual complex caseload of hydrotherapy and musculoskeletal patients.
- Provide supervision and training to the outpatient Physiotherapy team.
- Report on progress of ongoing service projects relating to local, divisional and trust wide objectives.
- Deputise for Deputy Head of Therapies - Outpatients in their absence.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Advanced knowledge of broad range of conditions, professional and evidence based practice and new research in Hydrotherapy
- Experience of supervising staff
- Involvement in audit, research and understanding quality issues
- Knowledge of validated assessment tools and outcome measures
- Knowledge and experience of complying with trust policies
- Experience of delivering training
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of appraisal, supervision and teaching of Band 5/6 staff, assistants and students.
- Training in clinical supervision and/or leadership skills
- Knowledge of the workings of community physiotherapy services and intermediate care services
- Experience of implementing change
- Experience in staff recruitment and interviewing techniques
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Degree in Physiotherapy
- HCPC Registration
- Evidence of CPD
- Attendance of relevant postgraduate hydrotherapy courses
- Competent IT skills

- CSP Member
- Involvement in Special Clinical Interest Groups

Essential criteria
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- To be able to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner and to keep accurate and legible patient notes
- To understand clinical governance and its implications for services, including experience of quality issues and audit
- To be able to comprehend and work within all the Trusts’ policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety
- To be experienced in performing specialist hydrotherapy assessments and treatments with patients with a variety of specific conditions
Desirable criteria
- Experience of running internal/ external courses
- To have experience of organisation, prioritisation and delegation
Physical Skills & Emotional Effort
Essential criteria
- To have experience of working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients and carers
- To carry out assessments and treatments of patients for several periods with moderate to intense physical effort whilst carrying out concurrent activities
- To deal sensitively with patients who have high levels of anxiety and aggression caused by pain, dementia or limited mobility

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
