You will provide effective clinical leadership and management of the team in the Intensive Care Unit and demonstrate the ability to manage their time by prioritising and organising their working. You must demonstrate current personal development, have a good understanding and involvement in improving patient safety, risk reduction and development of others and general support for peers, junior and senior colleagues.
Main duties of the job
You will work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for:
- The assessment, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for critically ill adults in their care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team. They will act as an effective clinical role model.
- Using specialist knowledge obtained through relevant post registration courses in caring for critically ill adults.
- Maintaining a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care.
- Developing leadership skills and experience in the management within the Intensive Care Unit
- Promoting and participate in the implementation of the RUH Nursing strategy:
- Developing and implementing Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.
- Reviewing nursing practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research/best practice.
- Participating in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate, and to teach and act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor to nursing or non-nursing staff.
- Designated to manage the Intensive Care Unit and/or act as a deputy to the person holding continuing responsibility. To develop leadership skills and experience in the management of the ward/department.

- Registered nurse with extensive critical care nursing experience

Desirable criteria
- Mentorship course
- Management and leadership training
- ILS/ALS certification
- Paediatric critical care qualification and clinical experience or willingness to undertake relevant study.
- Completion of Step 4 national competency framework for adult critical care nurses.
Skills

- Significant experience within critical care setting.
