Join Our Team as an Outpatients Receptionist
B9 Outpatient Department – RUH Bath

We’re looking for a welcoming, organised and patient‑focused individual to join our B9 Outpatient Department as an Outpatients Receptionist. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting high‑quality care for patients attending Neurology, the Acute Stroke Unit and the Older People’s Unit.

As the first point of contact for many of our patients and visitors, you will provide a professional and compassionate reception and clerical service. Your role will be essential in helping patients feel supported from the moment they arrive.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide a friendly, efficient and proactive reception service
  • Welcome patients, relatives and visitors and help guide them through their appointment journey
  • Offer clerical and administrative support to clinical staff across Neurology, Acute Stroke and Older People’s services
  • Maintain accurate patient information and appointment records
  • Ensure the smooth running of clinics by working closely with the wider outpatient team

We’re looking for someone who is approachable, calm under pressure and committed to delivering excellent patient care. Strong communication skills, good organisation and a caring attitude are essential.

Main duties of the job

- Receive patients and relatives at reception in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Answer all telephone enquiries in a helpful manner with an understanding of patient confidentially, taking and relaying messages competently and taking actions as appropriate.
- To maintain patient details / appointments efficiently on the patient administration system (Millennium). This will include the registration of patient referral letters, daily statusing of clinics and basic template changes.
- To book follow up outpatient appointments and which can sometime include ensuring all patients are advised of their appointments with reasonable notice or after negotiation with the patient.
- To cancel and re-book follow up patients as needed.
- To arrange transport for patients as and when required. 
- To book interpreters as and when required.
- To liaise with nurses, doctors, GP’s and other members of the department to provide a quality service for the patients.
- Be aware of and adhere to national waiting time targets when scheduling patient appointments.
- To carry out other clerical duties as required; this will include opening and sorting of post, copying and distribution of patient information leaflets.
- To provide administrative support for the whole department as required and undertake any additional duties as requested by senior secretary and management staff.
