This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an energetic, innovative and cohesive department that provides comprehensive high risk Obstetric care. The Maternity unit has between 4500 to 4800 deliveries a year and has received an Outstanding rating in the last 2 CQC inspections. The maternity services consist of 2 midwifery led birthing units, based in Frome and Chippenham and the Consultant led unit within the Royal United Hospital, Bath. The neonatal intensive care unit provides Level 2 care. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality antenatal and intrapartum care with a specialist interest in maternal medicine and emergency obstetric antenatal care, as the lead for Triage.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to join the current maternal medicine team and lead for emergency obstetric antenatal care – Triage. They will provide a pre-conceptional counselling clinic for women with complex medical conditions and undertake elective caesarean sections lists. The on-call commitment will be Obstetric only. There will be opportunities to undertake extended educational roles, such as Lead for SHOs.

They will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence and will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the department.

The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.

The post will be based at the RUH and the holder will participate in audit and directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by the Lead Clinicians for Obstetrics. A commitment to maintain professional expertise by attendance at meetings and courses is expected, and completion of diaries for CME is essential. It is also essential that you have an annual appraisal.
