Job overview
The Royal United Hospitals Bath (RUH) is seeking to appoint two dedicated and forward-thinking locum Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologists to join our dynamic and highly motivated team of 16 Consultants. This is a locum 10 PA job with a 1 in 12 on call commitment, covering Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an energetic, innovative and cohesive department that provides comprehensive high risk Obstetric care.
Our Obstetrics & Gynaecology department is nationally recognised for excellence in training. We recently received top accolades in all four categories of the Training Evaluation Form (TEF) survey in the medium-sized hospital category. Regionally, we are consistently ranked in the top three, and nationally within the top ten.
Our Maternity unit has between 4200 to 4600 delivery a year has received an Outstanding rating in the last 2 CQC inspections. The maternity services consist of 2 midwifery led units, based in Frome and Chippenham and the Consultant led unit in Bath. The neonatal intensive care unit provides Level 2 care.
Our Gynaecology department provides specialist service in ambulatory gynaecology (Polyp resection, Novasure and MVA), urogynaecology, early pregnancy, gynae-oncology (4 consultants), endometriosis and fibroid treatment, reproductive medicine, PAG, menopause and colposcopy. The RUH has 2 Robots in daily use.
Main duties of the job
The role will be a combination of both Obstetrics and Gynaecology care, both elective and emergency work. The job plan has the potential to be tailored to the specialist interest of the successful candidates. The Consultants provides the out of hours and clinic gynaecological ultrasound service so having a good level of gynaecological and early pregnancy scanning skill is desired.
We strongly encourage involvement in research, quality improvement initiatives, and teaching, with active collaborations in place with the University of Bath, University of Exeter, and the Bath School of Postgraduate Medicine. Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCOG Postgraduate professional qualification.
- Entry on Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months of interview date),
- Advanced training modules
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree (MD/PhD, FRCS), ATSM/SITUM in: Complex early pregnancy, non-elective gynaecology, Therapeutic hysteroscopy, Fetal care, Chronic pevic pain, Urogynaecology and vaginal surgery.
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of experience in specialist field
- Competent at emergency and elective obstetric / gynaecology surgery
Desirable criteria
- Ability to perform Obstetric Ultrasound – Growth Scans, Doppler, cervical length,
- Gynaecological scanning
- Urogynaecology procedure skills
- Early pregnancy care
