Job overview
This is an opportunity to join a busy, customer‑focused Pathology IT Service, supporting a wide range of essential clinical systems used across the Trust. Our team provides day‑to‑day technical support to Pathology staff and system users, ensuring services run smoothly and efficiently.
The post holder will provide high‑quality IT support, maintaining and troubleshooting Pathology IT systems to ensure they operate to the highest standard. A strong ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues will be a key part of this role.
The role requires a blend of technical knowledge, customer service, and an understanding of clinical workflows. You will respond to support tickets, handle direct queries, and ensure all incidents and requests are logged and managed in line with departmental policies and procedures.
The post holder may act as a first point of contact for Pathology IT queries, including call handling, logging requests, password resets, application configuration changes, and managing user permissions.
In addition, you will support system configuration, testing, and upgrade activities, contributing to the ongoing improvement of data quality and ensuring systems remain safe, accurate, and up to date.
Main duties of the job
- To provide assistance, advice, and fault resolution to users of IT equipment, systems and network.
- To ensure that all support calls and requests are dealt with promptly and effectively in accordance with defined policies and procedures.
- To install operating systems and software applications
- To assist in system upgrades and rollouts across Pathology as directed
- To configure, audit, and install new PCs, printers and other equipment.
- To assist in replacement and upgrading of existing IT equipment, including data transfer and replacement of hard disks, memory etc.
- To dispose of redundant IT equipment in accordance with organisational procedures.
- To assist with general systems, support and housekeeping tasks

Essential criteria
- Knowledge of a range of IM&T areas acquired through qualification to Degree or equivalent level, or relevant experience

KNowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Understanding of modern information systems/technologies and the supporting tools, methodologies and techniques for developing, maintaining and supporting them
- Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office Software and Active Directory Experience installing Microsoft Windows operating systems
- Experience working in a fast-paced IT environment, providing good customer service in a 1st Line support role
Desirable criteria
- Experience with NHS systems and processes
- Knowledge and experience of deploying operating systems and applications
Specific Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills when dealing with a wide range of people via face to face, telephone and email.
- Proficient in Microsoft Desktop operating systems and applications
- Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of analysing, interpreting, solving and explaining system issues to non-technical system users in a clear and concise way
