Job overview

Applications are invited for a Consultant Radiologist to join a friendly, forward-thinking team of 30 Consultant Radiologists at the Royal United Hospital Bath;

·         Consultant Radiologist with Specialist Interests in Head & Neck Radiology (10 PA’s) - This is a replacement post due to retirement. In addition to sub-specialty radiology interests the candidate must possess skills, particularly cross-sectional, applicable to a general department.

The post is full time but anyone wishing to work part time is also encouraged to apply. The post includes participation in the evening and weekend and on-call rota. Outsourcing is used for most cross-sectional emergency work performed after 2000, 7 days a week.

Main duties of the job

There will be a significant subspecialty imaging requirement but the candidate must possess skills, particularly cross-sectional, applicable to a general department. 

Head & Neck

There is an established Head & Neck/ENT/Max-Fax radiology service and the appointee will be expected to contribute to and advance this subspecialty and link in with the regional Head & Neck cancer service.  

Neuroradiology

Neuroradiology continues to be a growth area at the RUH and it would be advantageous for the appointee to contribute to and drive forward the acute and elective neuro-radiology subspecialty service provision.  The post holder will support in subspecialty radiology meetings and work closely with the RUH neurologists and stroke physicians.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GMC recognised general medical qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • FRCR
  • Be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Fully accredited clinical radiologist on GMC specialist register
  • Head and Neck/ENT Radiology subspecialty training
  • Current general radiological practice and ability appropriate to a district general hospital environment
  • Fully motivated in contributing to general and specialised work in the department and in maintaining a high standard of personal development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of dental radiology
  • Second specialty interested (Neuroradiology preferred)

  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to relate to all members of staff and patients
  • Committed to working within a team
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing to staff, patients and relatives ensuring that communication is tailored to the person being addressed

Essential criteria
  • Able to support multidisciplinary teaching and subspecialty training

  • Interest in participating in departmental audit and research
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to organise post-graduate research

Management and administration

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of audit process, appraisal, principles of Clinical Governance, confidentiality and data protection
Desirable criteria
  • Proven track record of audit
