NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist who is passionate about improving mental health services?  Do you want to work for a Trust whose priority is to provide high quality compassionate care?

The Trust is seeking a consultant psychiatrist to join the Central Bristol Assessment and Recovery Team. This is a newly created post.

The consultant will provide clinical advice and leadership for Central Rose Team (assertive outreach team ) and will work collaboratively with another consultant covering one of the busiest sectors in Bristol. There are weekly case reviews where an MDT approach reviews more complex presentations in each team. This facilitates team discussion and creation of a team formulation. This post is 0.8 WTE, with dedicated 2.5 SPA time. The Trust supports flexible working.

Bristol is known for big city life with easy access to beautiful countryside and beaches.  It is well connected with an international airport only 30 minutes from the centre. Trains to London take just over 90 minutes. Bristol has a range of neighbourhoods that suit diverse tastes and lifestyles, combining urban living with beautiful surroundings.  It is ideal for families, with a number of great schools and the university is one of the most respected in the country.

We offer one of the most competitive and flexible benefits packages.

Main duties of the job

You will deliver direct interventions to patients referred by one of the largest Bristol surgeries including assessment, diagnoses and treatment of mental health needs as link- consultant for the surgery. You will provide advice and attend monthly meetings with your allocated GP team. You will provide medical leadership to the assertive outreach team in Central Bristol (currently approximately 60 patients). You will have a medical legal role for patients subject to the community treatment order or MoJ restrictions. This will include the preparation of MHA Tribunal and other reports and attending MHA Tribunals. You will support and participate in Clinical Governance and Audit and have opportunities to undertake medical audit and activities related to clinical governance issues, subject to job-planning and under supervision of the line manager. You will provide cross-cover to other consultants. You will be expected to support the Medical Lead and participate in strategic development both within the local service and the wider Trust.
