Job overview

The Trust is seeking a consultant psychiatrist to join the Central Bristol Assessment and Recovery Team. This is a newly created post.
The consultant will provide clinical advice and leadership for Central Rose Team (assertive outreach team ) and will work collaboratively with another consultant covering one of the busiest sectors in Bristol. There are weekly case reviews where an MDT approach reviews more complex presentations in each team. This facilitates team discussion and creation of a team formulation. This post is 0.8 WTE, with dedicated 2.5 SPA time. The Trust supports flexible working.

Main duties of the job
You will deliver direct interventions to patients referred by one of the largest Bristol surgeries including assessment, diagnoses and treatment of mental health needs as link- consultant for the surgery. You will provide advice and attend monthly meetings with your allocated GP team. You will provide medical leadership to the assertive outreach team in Central Bristol (currently approximately 60 patients). You will have a medical legal role for patients subject to the community treatment order or MoJ restrictions. This will include the preparation of MHA Tribunal and other reports and attending MHA Tribunals. You will support and participate in Clinical Governance and Audit and have opportunities to undertake medical audit and activities related to clinical governance issues, subject to job-planning and under supervision of the line manager. You will provide cross-cover to other consultants. You will be expected to support the Medical Lead and participate in strategic development both within the local service and the wider Trust.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable criteria
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g MD,PHD,Msc or other additional clinical qualifications
- MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Eligibility
Essential criteria
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable criteria
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of assessing and treating patients in a community setting.
- Knowledge and evidence of participation in CPD
- Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement
Personal Skills
Essential criteria
- To possess leadership skills and be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
- Ability to appraise own performance as a Consultant.
- Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, in order to effectively work with patients, carers and staff.

Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to assess and treat psychiatric problems in Adults of working age and to deal with crisis situations.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a Consultant.
- Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of alternatives to inpatient admission care approaches
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching.
Desirable criteria
- Experience as an Educational Supervisor for trainees
Research and Audit
Essential criteria
- Experience or involvement in a research project and publication.
- Experience of carrying out an audit project.
Management
Essential criteria
- Evidence of management/leadership skills training.
Desirable criteria
- Previous management experience including that of other junior medical staff

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
