We are excited to announce an opportunity to join our dynamic team at the AWP Regional LDA Unit.

The AWP Regional LDA Unit is a pioneering Specialist Mental Health Inpatient Unit for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults.

Our mixed-gender, adult unit is one of two regional 10-bedded units across the South West, primarily serving Bath and North East Somerset, Wiltshire, Swindon (BSW ICB), with referrals from other ICB regions too.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver Expert Medical Care: Provide exceptional medical services to our service users, ensuring the highest standards of care

Mentor and Supervise: Guide and support junior medical staff, helping them grow and excel in their roles. Ensure compliance with the New Junior Doctor Contract 2016 and Working Time Directive.

Administrative Excellence: Efficiently manage administrative tasks related to patient care and clinical operations.

Accurate Record-Keeping: Maintain precise and comprehensive clinical records, submitting them promptly.

Strategic Planning: Contribute to service and business planning for both local and broader mental health services.

Continuous Professional Development: Engage in annual appraisals, attend academic programs, and participate in CPD activities to stay at the forefront of medical advancements.

Professional Standards: Uphold professional registration with the General Medical Council and adhere to all professional codes of conduct.

Collaborative Leadership: Working closely to ensure the efficient running of our services.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Basic Medical Qualification (MBBS or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Section 12 Approval

Eligibilty

Essential criteria
  • Eligible for Full GMC registration with a licence to practise at time of confirmation of appointment.
  • Completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in Psychiatry or as a fixed term specialty trainee in Psychiatry; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to manage own time and workload and prioritise clinical work
  • Ability to appraise own performance
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills

Research and Audit

Essential criteria
  • Ability to critically appraise published research.
  • Experience of carrying out an audit project
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in involvement in a research project and publication.
  • Interest in research

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge of issues in Mental Health Service for this specialty.

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to teaching other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching of undergraduate students
  • PGCME or equivalent/aspiration to attain a postgraduate teaching qualification
