Band 8b

Job overview

We are looking for a motivated, dynamic, and innovative individual, with a strong background in mental health pharmacy, capable of setting up and delivering a clinical pharmacy service to community mental health teams in the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire localities (BNSSG). This is a new role for AWP Pharmacy, and the successful candidate will be fully supported to become an integral member of both the BNSSG Division and the Pharmacy Senior Leadership team.

The successful candidate will ideally be an experienced non-medical prescriber, and eager to advance their clinical and leadership skills further, through undertaking the Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Practice qualification, if not already held.

The role will include a dedicated prescribing clinic, and the postholder will hold their own caseload of service users. The scope of practice and location for this will be agreed, dependent on service requirements and candidate experience.

The postholder will also become an integral member of the senior pharmacy team, supporting the Chief Pharmacist to set the strategic direction of both medicines optimisation in the organisation, and the pharmacy services.

The postholder will work closely with the senior pharmacy team to plan for the future roll out of a clinical pharmacy service to our community mental health services, identifying medicine optimisation priorities within this setting, and ways to improve the safe and effective use of medicines.

Main duties of the job

  1. Take operational responsibility for the safe, secure, effective provision, management and strategic direction of community medicines optimisation services across the specified division, to deliver a high-quality, clinical pharmacy service to community-based patients and their carers within AWP.
  2. Lead the development, delivery and evaluation of clinical pharmacy services across the divisional community services.
  3. Develop a competent, motivated and versatile clinical pharmacy workforce across community services.
  4. Work with the Chief Pharmacist, Deputy Chief Pharmacist and other Clinical Lead Pharmacists to ensure strategic plans are delivered and resources are utilised safely, efficiently and effectively to improve financial management of treatments and medicines expenditure, patient experience and outcome.
  5. Promote seamless and integrated care for patients with mental health conditions, supporting the transition of patients across care settings so they receive the required level of care to support them in taking their medication safely in the most appropriate care setting.
  6. Manage Band 8a and Band 7 pharmacists in the community services in the specified division.
  7. Provide a specialist referral point for medicines for all health and social care professionals working within the CMHTs.
  8. Provide comprehensive clinical advice and guidance to GPs and pharmacists in primary care about people with mental health conditions and their treatment.
