Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and skilled Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join the Psychological Therapies Service (PTS) in South Glos. The post holder will support the delivery of a range of a range of complex psychological therapies offered across the PTS. We would welcome applicants with an interest in working with complex C-PTSD to address gaps in therapy provision for this presentation.

The post holder will provide complex psychological assessment, formulations, and interventions to service users and their systems. The role will also involve engaging in consultation, training and staff support to meet the needs of the community teams interfacing with the PTS. In addition, part of the role will focus on the development of provision of neuropsychological assessments and adjustment for adults presenting with specific needs resulting from cognitive difficulties. As a service we are committed to addressing structural inequities and welcome applicants who are interested in embracing diversity in all its forms.

There will be opportunities for training and CPD with the aim of supporting the successful candidate in expanding competencies in delivery of psychological therapies. BABCP accreditation would be advantageous in this post.

The post holder will be required to work on Tuesdays and Fridays to meet the multifaceted needs of the service.    

Main duties of the job

·       To Provide assessment, formulations, interventions and evaluation of psychological interventions for service users, families and carers within secondary care.

·       To provide individual, group and family psychological therapies in collaboration with other clinicians within PTS and other MDT within the locality.

·       To provide consultation, supervision teaching and training to MDT colleagues

·       To provide neuropsychological assessment and required neuropsychological rehabilitation to adult service users accessing secondary care service.

·       To support service development and innovative practices within the PTS and the local services.

·       To support the delivery of Complex trauma and C-PTSD psychological interventions at both individual and group levels to support the unmet need within the PTS and the South Glos Locality.  

·       To supervise CAPS, Assistant Psychologists, Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners in the delivery of the Your team your Conversation your Plan transformation intervention program within the locality.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

CLINICAL

·      To provide a psychology service to the designated team including assessment and therapy both for individuals and groups as appropriate.

·      To provide a specialist consultancy service to multidisciplinary teams and other agencies providing care for the client group.

·      To participate in generic team duties as agreed by the operational manager and Psychology Lead as appropriate, to the needs of the service.

·      To participate in clinical and caseload supervision arrangements provided by the Psychology Service.

·      To maintain accurate records and to monitor clinical workload using agreed systems.

·      To ensure timely recording of all data required by the Trust.

·      To support the full implementation of Your Team Your Conversation Your Plan as appropriate to the needs of the service.

Essential criteria
  • Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology or equivalent Mental Health professional qualification (in Mental Health Nursing/OT/Social Work with professional body registration)
  • Experience of delivering Psychological Therapies interventions with group or individuals within mental health and or primary care settings (CBT/DBT compassion focussed therapy or equivalent)
  • Evidence of MDT working in secondary care
  • Empathy and interest in working with service user group
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary settings with complex presentations
  • Interest in working with complex presentations in Primary Care (CPTSD, mental health and substance misuse co-morbidity; bipolar presentations within primary care, etc)
  • Ability to manage crisis whilst supporting individuals and their systems to make sense of their difficulties in the context of their social circumstances
  • Ability to engage in service evaluations and audits

HCPC registered
