Job overview
This senior practitioner position is for the Hospital Assessment Team.
Through leadership and supervision, to co-ordinate the assessment and care interventions for children and young people with complex mental health difficulties within a CAPA CAMH service framework/ caseload. This aims to help individual staff to develop increasing skill and confidence with a wide range of health social care and wellbeing needs, in setting agreed and realistic priorities with the children, young people and families we offer a service to.
To contribute to the development of a culture where the personal and positive aspirations of service users are the primary focus of the individualised care plan, while developing and maintaining individual skills in delivering a range of therapeutic interventions. This must be
achieved whilst respecting the dimensions of personal choice, diversity and culture and the benefits which these bring to the therapeutic relationship.
Main duties of the job
Provision of rapid access to specialist CAMHS advice and support and to enable referrers to deal more effectively with a range of mental health problems.
Management of high risk young people in the community through intensive support.
Increased detection of mental health problems/needs with improved care, treatment and promotion of improved understanding of and confidence in the delivery of mental health care and collaboration with all agencies involved in the care of young people and families.
Provision of targeted formal and informal learning opportunities for all staff within the primary care teams to develop their knowledge and capabilities within the mental health component of holistic care.
Provision of information sign-posting and support for young people and families.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Professional qualification including registration with professional body e.g. Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapist.
- Post qualification substantial experience of assessing risk and developing risk management strategies with young people, families and the professional network.
- To maintain professional registration and practice within legal and professional frameworks such as the Children Act and Professional Body guidelines.
- Knowledge of national and local guidelines/ policy regarding provision of public sector services to children/young people and their families.
- Knowledge of working together arrangements in particular, Children in Need assessments Clinical Risk assessment and Child Protection guidelines.
- Knowledge of evidence based practice in working with children and young people with emotional behavioural and mental health difficulties.
- Experience of CAMHS multi-disciplinary team working.
- Ability to provide a specialist assessment and treatment service to children with complex mental health difficulties and their families.
- Ability to organise and prioritise caseload.
- Ability to address complex clinical issues within the context of multi-disciplinary team working.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other professionals within the team.
- Ability to use clinical supervision.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Ability to train others on young people's emotional wellbeing and mental health.
- Ability to communicate sensitive and difficult information to clients and their carers.

Professional Registration and training
Essential criteria
- Registered as a mental health practitioner with professional qualifications in a relevant discipline. For nurses RMN ( parts 3 or 13 of NMC register)

- Formal management qualifications
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post-qualifying clinical experience obtained in a variety of settings, at band 6 or equivalent
- Significant supervisory experience with clear evidence of effective people management skills including clinical supervision, sickness management, performance, conduct issues
- Understanding and experience of management processes
- Experience of leading teams and creating positive change
Desirable criteria
- Previous Team management experience at band 7
- Post registration education and continued professional development, including around leadership and change
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Able to articulate an advanced and detailed understanding of the relevant legal frameworks/legislation including CPA process, Mental Health Act , Mental Capacity Act, and Safeguarding, in order to lead and manage others
