Job overview
Health Innovation West of England is commissioned by the Office for Life Sciences (OLS) and NHS England to deliver programmes of support to accelerate the creation and adoption of health innovations, delivering improved outcomes for the population and generating economic growth, regionally and nationally with supporting companies/innovators to scale and create new jobs and investment.
The Discovery and Development function leads our engagement with healthcare companies across all technology sectors (e.g. services, digital, medical technology, diagnostics ) and health and care system partners to identify priorities and solve problems.
The team works across our commissioned programmes to identify opportunities to build partnerships with the commercial sector and work within the NHS England and OLS Commission, along with our wider team, to provide advice on commercialisation, market access and deployment.
The team partners with wider programme delivery functions. focusing on building partnerships between the NHS and commercial sector, to accelerate the adoption of solutions that improve the health and economy of our region.
This newly created role will also support the delivery of scanning activities to identify new products and innovations that meet the needs of cancer pathways, as part of our strategic partnership with the Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire Cancer Alliance.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the Discover and Develop Programme to enhance and provide a customised support service to innovators who may come from industrial, health service or academic backgrounds. This includes:
- Managing a diverse portfolio of innovations at various stages of the innovation pipeline, ensuring they have an effective gap analysis and plan around their support needs.
- Supporting the design and delivery of tailored support packages for innovators, in line with the Health Innovation Network’s Universal, Enhanced, and Distinctive offers.
- Providing an interface between innovators and the health and care system to allow for knowledge exchange, feedback and advice that guides innovation development.
- Leading the planning and delivery of a range of events and activities for innovators, industry and system colleagues.
- Support the delivery of scanning activities to identify new products and innovations that meet the needs of our local health and care organisations.
- Working closely with the wider team and system partners to identify key challenges and priorities within health and care pathways across the West of England, and supporting the identification of innovative solutions.
- Responsible for day-to-day line management of staff, along with flexible, time-bound task management of colleagues from various disciplines and seniority levels.

Training and qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level in healthcare, science, or a relevant field or significant applicable experience
Desirable criteria
- Recognised qualification in one of the following: o Business Support o Business Management / Costing o Clinical/healthcare experience
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of working in or with commercial businesses and investors.
- Significant experience of working in or with NHS commissioning, integrated care boards (ICBs), social care, HEIs and/or public health.
Desirable criteria
- Significant experience in managing projects, from set-up through project planning, process mapping, data analysis and implementation of change initiatives in healthcare settings.
Skills and abilities
Essential criteria
- · Excellent organisational, time management and prioritisation skills with an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to analyse, rationalise and organise complex information
Desirable criteria
- · Familiarity Verto or a similar Project Management Software solution and the principles of project management
- · Good understanding of using Zoho or similar CRM system
