Job overview

We are seeking Trust Grade Doctors to join our inpatient services across the Trust.

These are well-supported posts where a Trust Grade doctor can gain a great deal of experience and knowledge working within an established multi-disciplinary team, treating a range of acutely unwell patients within locked and open ward settings.

The post holder will find opportunity to develop their careers within an environment where education and development are encouraged, and where there is scope for the role to evolve. There is the opportunity to enhance knowledge about the legal aspects of psychiatric care. 

Although this post is not recognised for training, there will be one hour of protected supervision with the supervising Consultant each week. There are also weekly journal clubs and academic meetings the post holder can attend.

Main duties of the job

As the post holder you will provide support and clinical assistance to the consultant psychiatrist with regard to the care of patients. 

 

You will provide comprehensive psychiatric care through evaluation, diagnosis and use of appropriate treatment plans/strategies.  You will clerk new admissions and complete a thorough history and examination, including physical examination and risk assessment to be documented in patient’s notes. You will be involved in the discharge and after care plans for each patient.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Basic Medical Qualification (MBBS or equivalent)

Eligibilty

Essential criteria
  • Eligible for Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.

Aptitude, skills and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good core clinical skills.
  • Ability to interview and assess patients and write comprehensive, clear medical notes.
  • Good communication and language skills) the ability to communicate with clarity and intelligibility in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade, negotiate).
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of the Mental Health Act.
  • Evidence of understanding and application of knowledge.
  • Good organisational skills and time management.

Attitude

Essential criteria
  • Able to operate under pressure, cope with setbacks, self-aware

Research and Audit

Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Audit. Evidence of Research undertaken.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Can demonstrate an effective track record of working at F2 level or equivalent in a medical or psychiatry specialty.
  • Evidence of achievement of foundation Year 2 competencies from a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme (or working towards) or equivalent, in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice
  • A minimum of 4 months experience of working in a clinical setting in the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • A minimum of 4 months working at F2 level experience working in a psychiatry specialty in the NHS.
  • Can demonstrate an effective track record of working at Core trainee level or equivalent in a psychiatric specialty.
  • Evidence of achievement of foundation Year 2 competencies from a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme (or working towards completion in August 2025)

Team working

Essential criteria
  • Able to establish good working relationships with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
