Band 6 Occupational Therapist - BSW Perinatal Service

Band 6

Job overview

This is a  Band 6 post however we would consider a Band 5-Band 6 developmental post for the right candidate.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to be part of a specialist community perinatal mental health service. This additional OT post has been created to assist with our expansion to two years postnatal.

The specialist perinatal community mental health service provides advice, support and oversight of the BSW perinatal mental health pathway from preconception through to the infant’s second birthday, working with and supporting health and social care professionals in primary care, maternity services, early years and adult mental health teams.

The team carries a caseload of women who are experiencing moderate to severe perinatal difficulties, where the level of these difficulties exceeds the expertise of primary care or general mental health services – and may include those who are currently well but at high risk of relapse.

Due to the complexity of our service user group and their needs, we are looking for an enthusiastic OT that has relevant post registration experience working in adult mental health services. We are particularly keen to attract someone who is confident in delivering OT assessments and interventions, including groups and 1-1.

We offer regular opportunities for CPD and supervision including clinical and professional and the opportunity to contribute to service development.

Working as a key part of the team, you will routinely undertake all aspects of the Occupational Therapy process, including assessing each service user’s occupational functioning; planning, implementing and reviewing appropriate interventions and treatment methods. You will be able to employ a range of individual and group interventions, which embrace social inclusion and recovery principles at their core.

As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist you will be responsible for a caseload of service users for whom you will oversee the occupational therapy process. To deliver Occupational Therapy process of assessment, intervention and evaluation with reference to the relevant guidelines and legislations and with application to up to date and evidence based practice.

To work as an autonomous Occupational Therapist managing own case load.

To provide standardised and non-standardised specialist assessments.
To develop, facilitate and monitor individual as well as group intervention programme.

To work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team attending relevant meetings and providing timely feedback.

To support OT students.
