Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Occupational Therapy service based at Fountain Way, Salisbury for an Occupational Therapy Support Worker to join the multi-disciplinary team on based on the older adult Amblescroft wards to gain experience for a year.

Amblescroft North is a 20 bedded mixed gender in-patient unit that cares for individuals predominantly over the age of 65 years experiencing mental illness of a functional nature. Amblescroft South is a 20 bedded mixed gender in-patient unit that supports individuals over 65 years experiencing an organic illness.

Dedicated support via clinical and managerial supervision will be provided alongside continual professional development opportunities.

The post holder will work alongside an established, experienced and supportive therapies team as part of a multi-disciplinary service and will be able to access support from the wider Occupational Therapy service at Fountain way and across BSW.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dynamic; forward thinking, enthusiastic and well-motivated Occupational Therapy Support Worker to be involved in the delivery of therapeutic interventions on the Amblescroft wards and to support the Occupational Therapists with assessments and treatment plans using the Occupational Therapy process.

High levels of professionalism, flexibility and excellent communication skills are required to work effectively in this role. Previous experience in older adults care, mental health and running groups would be desirable.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will become an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team on the Amblescroft wards. Working alongside the registered Occupational Therapists to assess cognitive and functional ability in order to develop individualised and collaborative treatment plans for our service users.

You will be expected when required to contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings on the progress of our service users and what is required going forward towards discharge and will contribute to weekly synopsis updates.

You will be flexible in your approach to building therapeutic relationships with service users and will work collaboratively with the Activity Coordinators, Speech and Language Practitioner, Dietician and Physiotherapist.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 in a relevant subject or substantial equivalent experience gained in a role supporting people with significant health or social care needs

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Numerate and literate
  • Good communication skills demonstrates tact, diplomacy and listening
  • IT Skills basic keyboard and word processing
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with older adults

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding of how mental health issues can affect people
