Job overview

Applications are invited for the locum post of Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialist training in hand & wrist surgery.

The successful applicant will join a team of Consultants and Associate Specialists in providing a comprehensive elective Orthopaedic and Trauma service to the population of Somerset. The Department has a major commitment to training, supervising a team of SpRs, CT1/2s, Foundation Year 2 Doctors, as well as teaching of Medical Students from Bristol and Plymouth.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to provide full elective and trauma hand surgery services using both day surgery and in-patient operating lists. The applicant should be fellowship trained in hand surgery and either be enrolled or have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Hand Surgery.  The successful candidates will be expected to work closely with the existing orthopaedic team and have appropriate recent general orthopaedic trauma experience.

Working for our organisation

The benefits of working in Somerset include the idyllic countryside, with our areas of outstanding beauty and stunning coastlines. You will get to enjoy these perks whilst still only being a stone’s throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath and Exeter and only two hours away from London.

There are excellent educational facilities in the area and, when compared to other regions, house prices are reasonable. You will experience the best of both in Somerset, the countryside and the cosmopolitan – there is truly something for everyone!
