Band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist - Weston-Super-Mare

Band 7

Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Clinical Psychologist, who is passionate about providing evidence based psychological interventions to those with complex mental health problems.  This post would be suitable for newly qualified psychologists, or those with some experience. Many of the people referred to our service present with histories of complex trauma, so experience of working with these presentations would be invaluable. We would actively support the post holder to undertake further specialist training, for example in EMDR.

North Somerset PTS comprises a supportive team of Clinical Psychologists, Arts Psychotherapists, CBT Therapists, Family Therapists and Psychotherapists.  We have established links with local training courses.  All PTS staff have access to regular activities to support their ongoing professional development. A number of our staff are accredited by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) and we are able to provide specialist supervision to staff in applying for/ maintaining BABCP accreditation.

Main duties of the job

You will provide specialist assessment, formulation and evidence based psychological intervention to a caseload of service users on the North Somerset Psychological Therapies Service (PTS) caseload. The team is co-located with the  Recovery Team, so the role will involve close liaison with MDT colleagues to consider suitable referrals and provide support to colleagues working in a psychologically informed way. You will be joining the team at an exciting time, as we implement the Your Team, Your Conversation, Your Plan approach, and participate in the transformation of community services as part of the Community Mental Health Framework (CMHF).

We work closely with the Recovery Team, offering consultancy and supervision in the delivery of psychological interventions. We offer a range of therapeutic approaches, including CBT, DBT, CAT EMDR  Psychotherapy and Family Therapy.

Working for our organisation

We are AWP (Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust): a diverse organisation with over 5,000 dedicated staff providing inpatient and community-based mental health care.

We provide services from a range of locations to approximately 1.8 million people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, across the county of Wiltshire and in parts of Dorset.

Our outstanding people promote mental health and wellbeing. The expertise and resources within AWP are dedicated to a person-centred approach for those who use our services and for all employees. We recognise that happy and fulfilled employees give better care.

AWP is committed to support and create a positive research and evidence-based environment and culture, which can have a beneficial impact on everyone who works for the organisation and the care we provide to those who use our services.

At AWP we actively encourage applicants from all backgrounds; we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and from the LGBTQ+ community. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge to AWP, as diversity makes us stronger.
