Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our small, friendly and progressive inpatient pharmacy department at Weston General Hospital, part of the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for a Pharmacy assistant to support the technical staff in our inpatient pharmacy. This is a permanent position and you will be expected to partake in the weekend/bank holiday/late night rota once training has been provided.
Applicants must possess a good standard of education with good computer, communication and manual handling skills. You must be able to work alone and in a team, prioritise and organise your own work and work efficiently and accurately. An understanding of confidentiality and data protection issues is essential.
Pharmacy experience is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
- Liaises with other Assistant(s) to provide support to technical staff in order to maintain efficient running of the Pharmacy and other Departments and wards of the Hospital.
- Undertake “top-up” of medicines to departments and wards of the hospital.
- To dispense routine prescriptions, including discharge, inpatient and controlled drug requests, in accordance with standard operating procedures under the supervision of the Responsible Pharmacist.
- Answering the phone and hatch within the dispensary, dealing with queries from other hospital staff, patients and the general public.
- Refill stocks of dispensing bottles and other sundries in the dispensary to ensure efficient running.
- To become proficient in the use of the CMM Pharmacy computer system used for dispensing and stock control.
- To become proficient in the use of the pharmacy robot software used for dispensing and stock control.
- To become proficient in the use of the prescription Tracking system for tracking the flow of work in and out of the department.
- To assist and attempt to resolve problems associated with the dispensing process.
- To assist other Pharmacy staff in the provision of Medicines Optimisation services

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Understanding confidentiality and how it is important in a healthcare setting

- Previous work experience in a hospital and/or a pharmacy
- Experience using CMM and ARIM software
- Manual handling experience
- Experience using pharmacy stock management systems
- Working knowledge of basic computer software such as Word, Excel, Access & Outlook
