Job overview
The South Yorkshire (SY) Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) within the South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is looking to recruit enthusiastic newly qualified midwives to provide high quality, holistic perinatal midwifery care, sensitive to the needs of the women and her family at one of the four trusts with the SY region (Barnsley Foundation Trust, Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust)
Please only apply if you meet the following criteria:

We will only be appointing Newly Qualified Midwives via this advert who are due to complete their studies / training and will be ready to commence in employment as a Registered Midwife by the beginning of November 2026
As part of a centralised recruitment process, you will only need to submit one application. As part of your application, you will need to state your “Choice of Trust” in South Yorkshire that you would like to apply to work to.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team in both the hospital and community settings, providing continuity of care according to the local models of care. This includes partnership working with general practitioners, obstetricians, midwives, health visitors and all other agencies involved. To ensure that safe quality care is received by women and their families throughout the maternity pathway, flexible shift patterns / on calls covering 24 hours, 7 days, including bank holidays are required.
You will complete the National Preceptorship Framework programme which will be a minimum of 12 months.
The package will be undertaken with local support and as part of your professional development and transition to Band 6, or where automatic transition in not Trust policy, it will equip you with the skills and experience required to confidently apply for Band 6 roles.
During the preceptorship period you will have the opportunity to provide care across the perinatal pathway in a variety of settings. It will help you identify your strengths and highlight the areas requiring further development for the benefit of the women you care for. This in turn will enable you to become a confident and competent midwife, practicing in accordance with the NMC Code (2018) and give you the opportunity to prepare for your first NMC Revalidation in 3 years’ time.
Working for our organisation
We are Equal Opportunities employers and welcome applications from all sections of society regardless of disability, age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief.
Attached to this advert are Additional Information Documents for each of the four Trusts, providing you with supplementary details of what these offer from an employer’s perspective. As part of the application process, you will be asked to state which trust you are wishing to apply for.
Please note that as the South Yorkshire LMNS is recruiting collectively, your application will be processed by Doncaster & Bassetlaw as the host Trust who will then forward to the one Trust you have chosen. You should therefore be aware that your details will be shared with appropriate people from these Organisations for the purpose of this recruitment.
