Job overview

This permanent post based across Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI) and Bassetlaw District General Hospital (H), Worksop with the aim to further promote the delivery of the well-established and progressive Respiratory and General Medicine services and to enhance our patient outcomes. We particularly encourage applications from those with a special skill in thoracoscopy or advanced bronchoscopy techniques including EBUS. 

On-call is classed as Category A low frequency, which attracts a 3% on call availability Supplement.

Main duties of the job

Key duties of the post:

  • ·       Strengthening the delivery of a high quality respiratory medicine service across the hospital and community.
  • ·       Forging links between respiratory medicine and the Accident and Emergency departments to develop effective patient pathways
  • ·       Liaising and developing working policies with relevant hospital departments, local General Practitioners, nurses and paramedics.
  • ·       Developing innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high quality care and emphasis on community management where appropriate.
  • ·       Developing the use of nurse practitioners and paramedics in the hospital and community.
  • ·       Developing a subspecialty interest.
  • ·       Maintaining close links with respiratory medicine colleagues across sites.
  • ·       Provide a 7 day service, with colleagues, as resources allow
  • ·       Teaching and training undergraduates as well as postgraduates
  • ·       Quality assurance of the service and individual practice 

Dedicated offices, IT access and secretarial support is provided for consultants.

Essential criteria
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • You must be on the specialist register for Respiratory or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be eligible to be on the GMC specialist register (evidence required prior to commencement) to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
  • Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise
  • Relevant higher degree

Experience and Achievements

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Respiratory
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on range of problems within the specialty
  • Understanding current issues within Respiratory and the future direction of the specialty
  • Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
  • Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
  • Wide based experience in Respiratory
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance at a recognised management course

Teaching and training

Essential criteria
  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision
  • Attendance at a teaching course
  • Formal qualification in teaching/education

Audit and Research

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects and the implementation of outcomes
