Job overview
We are excited to offer this new and innovative post for highly motivated applicants who wish to develop their skills and portfolio in medical education and leadership, whilst also having the opportunity to continue to maintain their clinical skills in the clinical area of their choosing.
The post has been designed for resident doctors who are looking to take a 12-month break from formal training after successfully completing Foundation training, but could also be suitable for those with more clinical experience.
The post is initially offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months after which extension may be considered on a mutually agreed basis, subject to satisfactory review.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will lead our developing education faculty, which currently consists of clinical teaching fellow posts based in medicine and surgery (50:50 education: clinical) , as well as Specialised Foundation Programme FY2s in Medical Education. This senior role will lead our faculty in the delivery of teaching to The University of Sheffield medical students and will work closely with our Placement Education Team and other education faculty members. You will also link with the departmental leads for medical student teaching and the Trust’s Phase Leads for the medical school. The post holder will also deliver teaching for Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners and there may also be opportunities to deliver education sessions across the multi-professional team including Nurses, Advanced Practice roles, student Physician Associates and Allied Health Professionals, including simulation and VR.
The postholder will also be eligible for a financial contribution towards the undertaking of a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at the University of Sheffield, pending availability of a place and acceptance on to the course. This is a one year course with six contact days and further online learning and assignments within the three modules.
