Director of Finance and Estates

Executives / VSM: Executives / VSM

Job overview

Thank you for considering joining RDaSH. We are really excited about our new mission as a Trust to nurture the power in our communities: looking to transform outcomes and tackle health inequalities. Your skills may be just what we need as we aim to make sure that key enablers of change like finance, procurement and estates are working to transform the experience of our patients, carers and communities.

We are looking to recruit our next Director of Finance and Estates to join the Board, executive group and our clinical leadership executive.

Our team is shaping up to support an ambitious and radical strategy that will put the communities we serve at the very heart of the Trust as we aim for recognition amongst the first NHS community powered organisations.

This is a fast-paced transition requiring someone who wants to make a difference. RDaSH benefits from outstanding research capability and strong service-user partnerships. We want to bridge these assets and create a listening enterprise that experiments for the right results and where we can deliver services to be proud of.

In support of the strategy, we have reorganised the Operating Model of how we work and altered some accountabilities within the executive team.  With well-established colleagues in that team and some new hires over the past twelve months, now is the right time to join us.  Our focus on implementation will make for a rewarding leadership role with real impact.

Main duties of the job

This voting Board role reports to the Chief Executive, Toby Lewis.  Much more importantly, the postholder leads a team of senior finance professionals, and line manages our head of estates.  Services within the Trust are predominantly in-house, and we are working with partners to ensure we have the right bandwidth and resilience to develop strong professional structures – a corporate backbone to our clinical services.

In summary the post holder will:

  • Lead in finalising our five-year financial plan, which will help us to devote more of every pound to patient care within the Trust
  • Maintain and support our work to invest in service development and in our communities, whilst retaining financial balance on a multi-year basis
  • Ensure that our business-to-business relationships and transactional services are outstanding, whether that is supply chain procurement, contracting with the wider NHS and Local Authorities, or working with commercial partners
  • Provide Board level leadership of our estates function, and our estate plans: we would expect substantial change in the shape and nature of the latter over the next three years as we look to make sure we best support our clinical purpose, research work, and our commitment to education and learning
  • Act within our senior leadership teams, and wider partnerships, as a constant champion of social value and value for money as the Trust works to improve our productivity and contribution to the public sector and wider economy.

Working for our organisation

Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) employ around 3700 talented colleagues who are very much appreciated, valued, and respected.

We have a wide portfolio which includes mental health, physical health, learning disability and drug and alcohol services.

We are passionate about enhancing the quality of our service and we work hard to attract and select the right colleagues for our organisation. Our goal is to employ those who share our passion for providing first class care while remaining committed to our vision and values.
