Job overview
The successful candidate will contribute to the assessment of each service user and their individuals needs and formulate appropriate socially inclusive, collaborative recovery programmes, incorporating robust risk management and positive behaviour support plans to enable safe therapeutic care delivery in the community.
A joint professional approach to person centred care is essential and a willingness to ensure the service user is at the centre of the support they need to live a full and rewarding life focusing on promoting independence, choice, opportunities and community inclusion.
Main duties of the job
The overriding purpose of the role is to improve the lives of people with learning disability and offending behaviour in forensic placement, through the provision of an excellent service, promoting recovery and well-being and delivering the highest quality of patient care possible.
Participating in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, to compassionately meet patient needs and that of their families and carers.
To be professionally accountable and responsible for care delivery, undertaking clinical/therapeutic interventions as required.
To be compassionate in meeting the needs of patients and their families/carers.
To act as a key nurse, lead professional and co-ordinate patient care.
To be responsible for the day to day running of the home and take charge in the absence of the Registered Manager on the unit.
To undertake clinical supervisions of junior staff as required.
To support management to continuously improve care delivery and strive to promote a positive image of the Forensic Service and the wider Trust.
To be committed to and involved in activities integral to the service and Trust’s quality improvement systems.
The role will include the undertaking of sleep in duties within the home.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RNLD/RMN with recent evidence of supporting people with a Learning Disability within a forensic framework
- Current and active registration with NMC
Desirable criteria
- Assessor status 998 or willingness to undertake
- Evidence of post qualifications study
Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Working within a forensic setting
- NHS experience
Desirable criteria
- Working within a residential/community home
- Working with service user that may challenge
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Valid and current evidence of education and training to achieve registration as nurse with the NMC – current students will be considered
- Evidence of learning from reflection and self directed study
- Good awareness of NHS policy,national strategies including the mental capacity act and the mental health act and deprivation of liberty safeguards
- Experience of working within the positive behaviour support framework
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of current trends and developments relating to Learning Disabilities, Forensic care and risk management
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to form and promote positive relationships with staff, service users, local community, other agencies and professionals.
- Ability to work without direct supervision, to organise own workload and delegate and supervise junior staff within the team
- Understanding of team dynamics and an awareness of how to be an effective team member
- Good word processing skills and internet skills
- Basic knowledge of clinical governance
- Good personal organisational skills, including effective planning and organisation of self and service user care
- Ability to assess service user needs and provide appropriate support via the use of well written evidence-based support plans
- Ability to chair meetings where required in the absence of registered manager
- Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance
- Health, safety and security awareness
- Good communicator – customer service skills
- Ability to keep accurate and legible notes
- Ability to delegate tasks
- Ability to proactively assess and manage risk, both clinical and environmental
- Evidence of positive engagement in change management
