Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join RDaSH Healthy Hospital & Community Programme as a Tobacco Treatment Advisor. The Programme was developed to support the NHS Long Term Plan to treat tobacco dependency across inpatient and community settings.
The Healthy Hospital & Community Programme is seeking a self-motivated and driven individual, with experience of working within a mental health setting, to join the team who are passionate about improving health inequalities.
The post is full time, covering sites in Rotherham and Doncaster. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing individual and group support to RDaSH service users and staff who wish to stop smoking. Specialist training will be delivered via NCSCT.
Previous experience in smoking cessation is desirable but not essential as all training will be provided.
Enhanced DBS disclosure will be required for this post.

Main duties of the job
Candidates must be able to:
Provide an evidence-based specialist smoking cessation service within the designated locality, contributing to the achievement of the services stop smoking targets.
Work with the team leader to arrange own appointments, venues and times in response to client choice.
Deliver one to one support to clients based on their needs, carrying out comprehensive assessments of referred or self-referred clients, and working with the client to plan and develop a smoking cessation programme which will meet the needs of the individual.
In consultation with the client, assess for and advise upon the most suitable nicotine replacement pharmacological product.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and patients.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE (or equivalent) grade C or above in English and Maths
- NVQ level 3 in Health care (or equivalent)
- Smoking Cessation Training Level 2 or willing to undertake within 3 months of starting in post
Desirable criteria
- Specific training in health promotion interventions
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in the NHS in the community or hospital setting
- Experience of providing healthcare, healthcare advice or health promotion advice to patients or members of the public
Desirable criteria
- Experience of providing help, support and/or counselling on a one to one or group basis
- Experience of working with people with severe mental health conditions and / or learning disabilities
- Knowledge and experience of working with secondary care and primary care-based health professionals
- Knowledge or behaviour change models and experience of using motivational interviewing techniques
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Computer literate, experience of using Microsoft Office software
- Knowledge of evidence based smoking cessation initiatives
- Ability to work and communicate in group settings
- Good knowledge and understanding of evidence based practice in smoking cessation, the consequences of smoking and the benefits of quitting
- Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with professionals / individuals from different professional backgrounds
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and listening skills
- Good organisational skills
- Understand and maintain confidentiality issues
Desirable criteria
- Experience of using clinical systems
- Understanding of audit and evaluation
- Knowledge of principles of health promotion and issues of health inequality
- Ability, and experience of writing reports or clinical notes
- De-escalation skills and awareness
