Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Community Neurological Service to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our friendly, dynamic and forward-thinking team who cover Rotherham and Doncaster.
The successful candidate will join our welcoming Multidisciplinary Team, which includes Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Nurses and Rehab Assistants.
You will provide Occupational Therapy assessments and intervention across community services (with bases at Park Rehab Centre, Rotherham and Tickhill Road Hospital in Doncaster). There may be a requirement to support the wider neurological services if demand requires.
Patients on the caseloads have a wide variety of diagnosis, for example Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS), spinal cord injury.
You will have plenty of scope to demonstrate and explore creative freedom within the role, as well as link with wider trust services e.g. Flourish. Facilities patients can access for their rehabilitation comprise a wood workshop, splinting/casting facilities and community settings.
The successful candidate will have neurological experience. The candidate should be flexible, and forward-thinking, have an ability to work autonomously. Candidates should be patient centred, motivated to problem solve.
Candidates will be registered with the HCPC.
This attractive Band 6 post is an exciting opportunity for a permanent post.
Main duties of the job
- Carry out an array of assessments to identify problems and devise treatment plans.
- Provide therapeutic intervention to a groups.
- Devise and delegate rehabilitation programmes to Rehabilitation Assistants dependent on level of competence.
- Work in partnership with the Occupational Therapy Lead to monitor service performance and develop the service to meet the challenging needs of the pathway.
- Attend meetings with the team and families to feedback progress, rehabilitation programmes and discuss discharge plans.
- Provide supervision and developmental guidance to those working within the multidisciplinary team in relation to own areas of expertise and special interests.

- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- HCPC registered.
Experience

- Ability to communicate complex information clearly to a variety of professionals and to patients and their families, overcoming barriers to communication including language, confusion and anxiety
- Confident user of laptop/computers and IT databases. Proficient in Word, Excel and Powerpoint
- Understanding of information governance and of the processes for sharing patient information across agencies
- Proven organisational skills including time management and prioritisation to manage clinical and administrative workload

- Demonstrable skill in clinical reasoning and problem solving for complex case management
- Understanding of information governance and of the processes for sharing patient information across agencies.
- Understanding of the issues pertaining to clinical risk management, and ability for formulate plans to reduce risk.
- Physical fitness to move and handle patients within Trust guidelines and to travel to patients’ homes independently.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Awareness of policy and practice in relation to Neurological Rehabilitation
- Demonstrate clinical knowledge of a broad range of diagnoses and conditions in line with the post.
- Awareness of relevant clinical guidelines and legislation and their application in practice.
- Demonstrable knowledge HCPC standard of practice and of professional registration requirements.
- Experience of completing profession specific assessments, standardised and non-standardised and formulating treatment plans to support rehabilitation and discharge planning.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
