Job overview
The Advanced Biomedical Scientist for Coagulation and Haematology at Rotherham Hospital is, in conjunction with the Lead Haematology and Lead Blood Transfusion BMSs, responsible of the day to day running of the Haematology Laboratory. This includes aspects of of technical expertise, training, Human Resources, stock resources and asset management. The role also extends to the management of the Blood Sciences support workers.
The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Partnership fully integrates the pathology services delivered on behalf of the Partner Trusts within the Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint; Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.
The Pathology Partnership will provide the best possible service for patients and clinicians; improving health outcomes, delivering quality and efficiency benefits and ensuring a sustainable workforce for the longer term.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work with the Blood Sciences management team to provide help and support to all Blood sciences staff. As such the post holder may be required to deputise for the Lead Haematology BMS.
Main duties of the role are to provide front line scientific and technical expertise in both the Coagulation and Haematology settings. The post holder will be the first line response to escalated issues raised by all grades of staff and external suppliers. Subjects may include clinical, technical and EQA issues. The post holder will be required to ensure all process and polices are adhered to be staff. The post holder will act as frontline response to all HR aspects of the role including, roster development, training, recruitment and retentions, dealing with personnel issues and sickness management.

Education
Essential criteria
- HCPC registered
- FIBMS or MSc (in Discipline or equivalent) or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma (Blood Sciences) or level 7 Apprenticeship or equivalent extensive experience with a commitment to obtain a level 7 qualification.
- IBMS Specialist portfolio (Blood Sciences) or other BMS (Blood Sciences) specialist qualification
- Evidence of continual professional development
Desirable criteria
- Further Management training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience in a UKAS accredited clinical (Blood Sciences) Laboratory.
- Experience with a wide range of Blood Sciences Diagnostic techniques
Desirable criteria
- Experience in application and monitoring of UKAS standards
- Experience in demonstrating leadership qualities
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, QPulse, LIMS etc)
