Job overview
The North and South Community Mental Health Teams have a caseload of approximately 1,000 patients each. Each team has patients subject to CTO and conditionally discharged patients and the consultant will be the RC for an equitable proportion of these patients.
North CMHT, based at Northlands Health Centre, is a community mental health team that provides treatment and care to adults living in the North of Sheffield who have complex mental health needs.
Main duties of the job
§ To provide senior medical leadership to the Community Mental Health Team
§ Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings
§ Medical leadership to the multidisciplinary team.
§ Medical/psychiatric assessments for care planning and risk assessment
§ Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological and psychological interventions to aid recovery.
§ Mental Health Act assessments of patients in contact with the team as well as participation in the daytime Section 12 rota.
§ Completion of administrative tasks necessary for clinical responsibilities.
§ Liaison with members of other teams eg home treatment, acute wards
§ Participation in the Trust wide Consultant On Call rota.
§ Clinical supervision of junior medical staff, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and non-Medical prescribers
§ Teaching Undergraduate Medical students

The patients we care for include those with psychotic disorders, severe affective disorders, and personality disorders, as well as patients with co-morbid organic and/or neurodevelopmental diagnoses. We provide person-centred care that is strengths based, trauma informed, evidence-based and multidisciplinary.

- Collaborative, inclusive and service user focused approach to assessment and formulation / diagnosis in a community setting.
- Clear, evidence-based approach to risk assessment & management.
- Ability to appraise complex, multi-faceted information from various sources and bring together into a shared, coherent understanding.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of best practice and evidence relating to Community General Adult Psychiatry.
- Experience of involvement in service development
- Leadership training / knowledge.

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice.
- Certificate of Completion of Training in General Adult Psychiatry (Higher trainees should be w

- Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approved.
- Approved Clinician (AC) status / eligibility to be on the AC register.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in General Adult Psychiatry including working within a community-based service.
- Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
- Evidence of experience in medical audit and understanding of principles of clinical governance
Desirable criteria
- Experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist in a community mental health team
- Experience leading a community mental health service.
- Teaching/presentation experience (e.g., conference presentation, EBM, research experience) to a range of audiences.
- Experience networking and building collaborative working relationships across a range of stakeholders / other clinical specialisms to improve patient care pathways and experience.
