Employment Advisor

NHS AfC: Band 4

Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Employment Advisor to join our expanding Talking Therapies team.

The NHS RDaSH Talking Therapies teams cover Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire and provide psychological interventions to people with common mental health problems in primary care as part of the National Talking Therapies programme.

The post holder will support patients with common mental health problems to gain, return to,  or retain employment. The role will involve working with patients, clinicians, Job Centre Plus, employers, trade unions and employment agencies to keep people in employment and secure employment opportunities.

Please note: This is a hybrid role, involving both remote work (from home) and on-site work (in clinic). The balance between home and clinic-based work will be determined by service demand and may vary over time. In addition, there is an expectation to attend face-to-face events to promote the service, as well as regular attendance at Job Centres (JCP)

Main duties of the job

You will provide tailored employment advice, support and guidance to patients who are experiencing mental health difficulties using evidence-based interventions to support patients to find, return or remain in employment. You will manage a caseload and consider the patients strengths, difficulties, and employment assets in order to offer them most effective support and work towards their goals.

The employment goals could include:

  • To find a suitable job
  • To return to work from a period of sick leave
  • To improve the working environment in which the client is working
  • To leave work and find suitable alternative employment.

Employment Advisors will also work collaboratively with step two and step three clinicians within Talking Therapies and where needed, refer patients to other support if they have particularly complex barriers.
