Consultant in Adult MH – Psychiatric Liaison

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Psychiatrist to an innovative post within Adult Mental Health Services (Acute Hospital and Primary Care Liaison), based in Scunthorpe and covering the area of North Lincolnshire.  The Trust provides a comprehensive adult, child, older adult, learning disability, and community forensic mental health services to Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire. It also provides Community Physical Health Services and Substance Misuse Services in Doncaster

The team in North Lincolnshire is keen to welcome applications from dynamic psychiatrists with a progressive approach to MDT working, to provide senior medical input to patient care for adults of working age in our Acute Hospital Liaison Team and to our Primary Care Network Mental Health Team.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register for Adult Psychiatry or a trainee within 6 months of completing their CCT and be approved/eligible for approval for Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status. They should have evidence of good communication skills and a commitment to multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.

The job plan relates to a whole-time appointment with an opportunity to modify this if the post is offered as part-time or job share.  This job is advertised pending approval for the job plan from the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a leading member of two multi-disciplinary teams in a split post, providing Consultant input into the  Acute Hospital Liaison Team and PCN Mental Health Team.  We operate a full MDT approach, with strong clinical leadership, and the post holder will work closely with medical and nurse consultant colleagues within the teams and in the locality.  In addition, the post-holder will have a key role in the delivery of community services in line with the Community Mental Health Transformation agenda, working closely with GP colleagues.   This is a unique opportunity as a senior Psychiatrist to work with clinical colleagues from other specialties in a truly end-to-end way, providing advice and guidance and promoting integrated working and excellent quality care.  The Consultant will have a flexible time table designed to respond to the needs of the patients and carers as well as the needs of the team members for support and advice, whilst providing direct delivery of the most complex care.  Ideally suited to those with an interest in service development and/or medical education and training as we continue to develop our CORE24 Liaison offer to the local acute Trust.  The Acute Liaison team aspires to achieve accreditation with PLAN.

There is a supportive peer group on offer in North Lincolnshire and plenty of opportunity to grow and develop special interests in post.  North Lincolnshire is a great place to live and work, and you will be warmly welcomed.
