Senior Principal Clinical Psychologist

NHS AfC: Band 8b

Job overview

Are you passionate about delivering high-quality psychological care for people with complex emotional needs and trauma? Do you want to work in a service that values innovation, staff wellbeing, and a strong team ethos?

We are looking for a Psychologist to join our Comprehensive Emotional Care Service, which brings together our Community Mental Health Team and Primary Care Mental Health pathway. The post is primarily clinical, offering psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention, but also provides the chance to lead and develop our community of psychological professionals.

We welcome applications from experienced psychologists at Band 8b level, as well as those seeking a development opportunity at Band 8a, with structured supervision and support to progress into an 8b role.

At RDaSH we are guided by our 28 Promises, which focus on fostering the power of our communities, compassion, and quality. This role is based in our new, purpose-built service base, a modern, welcoming environment designed to support both staff and the population we serve.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Psychologist, you will:

  • Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention for people experiencing complex emotional needs and trauma.

  • Offer expertise in risk assessment and management, supporting colleagues across the multidisciplinary team.

  • Deliver a range of evidence-based therapies, with opportunities to contribute to and develop innovative approaches beyond CBT (e.g., EMDR, DBT, systemic approaches).

  • Lead, supervise, and support a group of psychological professionals, helping to shape service delivery and nurture staff wellbeing.

  • Contribute to service development and governance, working alongside colleagues to embed trauma-informed care across our pathways.

  • Provide consultation, supervision, and training for MDT colleagues, and support the next generation of psychologists through links with the University of Hull Clinical Psychology course.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Skilled in engaging and working therapeutically with people with complex trauma.

  • A strong communicator, able to share complex ideas with compassion and clarity.

  • Confident in multi-agency working and building effective partnerships.

  • Motivated by service improvement, innovation, and quality.
