Fixed term: 6 months | 10 PAs
We are looking for a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia to join our committed team of 27 anaesthetists. You will help support service expansion, provide consultant cover and flexibility, and assist colleagues during on-call periods and leave.
Sheffield Children's Hospital boasts a state-of-the-art theatre complex with 9 dedicated theatres, a procedure room, and two MRI scanners. Our service portfolio includes regional and supra-regional surgical specialties such as general surgery, urology, neonatal care, orthopaedics (spinal and limb reconstruction), plastics, burns, ENT, maxillofacial, dental, neurosurgery (with intraoperative MRI), and ophthalmology. We have independently staffed Intensive Care and High Dependency Units, providing excellent multidisciplinary care.

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

Relevant specialist qualification

Training and experience in paediatric anaesthesia

Commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork and delivering high-quality patient care

Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Team Lead, your responsibilities will include:

Provide anaesthetic services to accommodate service expansion, consultant cover and flexibility, and to cover consultants who have been on call or are on leave.

On-call responsibilities include providing consultant support for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit for difficult airway issues, and cover for the consultant covering intensive care when they are busy.

There may be opportunity for those with appropriate qualifications to take on additional PICU responsibilities.

Knowledge/Previous Experience

- Appropriate training and experience in paediatric anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
- Training, experience and or interest in Chronic Pain Medicine
Previous Training Management/Audit
Essential criteria
- Basic experience in management eg trainee rotas
- Clear involvement in audit
Desirable criteria
- Preparation of audit
- Understanding of NHS management responsibilities of consultants
Academic Achievements Research/Publications

- Has interest in research and undertaken clinical projects
