An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dedicated Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPCT) at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust as an Infection Control Nurse.
We’re looking for a compassionate and accountable professional who shares our Trust values and is committed to delivering excellence, respect, and inclusive care to colleagues, patients, and service users.
About You
- RNC/RN8 degree or diploma level
- Current NMC registration
- Relevant post registration qualification as required for speciality
- Experience of providing clinical advice in relation to the specialist area.
Main duties of the job
Reporting to the IPC Nurse Specialist, some of your responsibilities will include:

Provide expert advice on infection prevention and control across the organisation

Review patients with alert organisms and support clinical teams with containment strategies
-
Work closely with microbiology consultants to interpret lab results and guide treatment decisions

Deliver education and training to staff across all departments

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- RNC/RN8 degree or diploma level
- Current NMC registration
- Relevant post registration qualification as required for speciality
- 998 or mentorship / supervisor training
Desirable criteria
- Specialist Infection Prevention and Control qualification (or willingness to undertake)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of providing clinical advice in relation to the specialist area
- Experience of determining appropriate solution to problems pulling on different information available
- Mentoring experience with nursing students and training/development teaching of junior colleagues
- Experience of writing policies and procedures for different audiences
- Experience of planning provision of care for patients
Desirable criteria
- Previous IPC champion or work within an IPC Team
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of clinical governance activities, including audit, benchmarking and quality improvement
- Ability to dynamically risk assess clinical situations and respond appropriately
- Ability to monitor and respond to changes in patient conditions effectively
- Ability to develop education and training programmes
- Ability to build relationships for collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and external agencies
- Skills in collecting and analysing data and using evidence based practice to improve patient outcomes
