Job overview
We are looking for a dynamic clinical pharmacist with extensive NHS post-registration experience, to help us deliver fantastic advanced-level pharmacy care to our Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients.
Our well established and progressive gastroenterology service now offers one of the most comprehensive and specialised services in the UK. The department has a particular reputation for the clinical care of colitis and Crohn’s disease, as well as in the management of coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, nutritional support and intestinal failure, cancer, autoimmune liver disease and viral hepatitis.
Great emphasis is placed on multidisciplinary care, with specialist nurses, dieticians and pharmacists in the team working alongside the consultants. We also have a friendly team of clinical pharmacists, technicians and assistants providing a clinical pharmacy service to all of gastroenterology and hepatology. You will be responsible for the clinical pharmacy service to the IBD patients.
As well as significant post-registration experience, you’ll also need a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy alongside excellent clinical leadership, interpersonal and communications skills and be an Independent Prescriber.
Main duties of the job
- To lead, deliver, develop and evaluate clinical pharmacy services to the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) service in accordance with the objectives set by the Principal Pharmacist and the Clinical Directorate management representative.
- Contribute to the multidisciplinary IBD team as a clinical practitioner, championing medicines optimisation
- To deliver relevant education, training, mentorship and clinical supervision.
- To contribute to the pharmacy departmental services including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- MPharm degree in pharmacy.
- Higher degree/ Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent postgraduate diploma in specialist area
- Registered Independent Prescriber
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate Masters in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent qualification).
- Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ability to sustain prolonged concentration despite unpredictable workload.
- Manages difficult and ambiguous problems
- To adopt a flexible working attitude to meet the needs of the patient and the pharmacy department, identifying a vision for the delivery of pharmaceutical care.
- Ability to develop good working relationships across traditional boundaries, e.g., primary/secondary/tertiary care.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive post-registration experience including significant experience in IBD, Gastroenterology and/or hepatology
Desirable criteria
- Experience of teaching and/or tutoring students.
- Research, audit, and publication experience
- Appropriate Short Management Course e.g., appraisal training, leadership skills.
