Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Cardiac Physiologist / Healthcare Science Practitioner to work as part of our Diagnostic Cardiology team. This post is an ideal opportunity for an individual who has recently qualified or is due to qualify at the end of this academic year.

The post holder will be required to cover procedures in non-invasive areas of Cardiac Physiology. The post holder will perform the following procedures within the non-invasive service; 12 Lead ECG, ambulatory ECG/BP analysis, ETT, autonomic function testing, and Tilt Table testing. Opportunities will be given to consolidate their knowledge and develop their skills and experience in invasive cardiology or echocardiography after a period of consolidation.

Applications will be considered from students in the final year of the BSc Cardiac Physiology degree. Candidates working towards the degree may be taken on as a trainee Cardiac Physiologist pay Band 5 Annexe 21 (75% of top of band 5) and on successful completion of the degree will move on to the start of a Band 5.

 

Main duties of the job

Perform ECG recordings on a variety of patients in an in-patient and out-patient setting.

Interpret 12 lead ECG recordings for any acute changes or abnormalities and take appropriate action in line with departmental protocols.

To provide factual reports on G.P. 12 lead ECG recording referrals.

To fit ambulatory ECG monitors.

To fit, analyse and interpret Event recorders.

To fit ambulatory Blood pressure recorders.

To analyse 24 hour Holter monitor data using digital technology and a computer software programme installed on a PC.

To perform clinical physiologist led outpatient exercise treadmill tests.

To perform in-patient exercise treadmill tests with a doctor present.

To perform physiologist led Tilt Tests.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Achieved or due to achieve BSC Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) / Healthcare Science (Cardiology / CVRS) or equivalent.
  • Registration or be eligible to register with AHCS
Desirable criteria
  • SCST Certificate in electrocardiography

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working consistently as a cardiac physiologist / trainee cardiac physiologist.

Further Training

Essential criteria
  • Experience undertaking non-invasive cardiac investigations
Desirable criteria
  • SCST practical and/ or theory exams
  • Experience undertaking basic invasive cardiac investigations.

Special Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good IT skills with experience of working with Microsoft Office
  • Able to work autonomously and within a team.
Desirable criteria
  • Excellent organiser
  • Experience of working with NHS software systems.
