Job overview

We are seeking a flexible, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to become part of our dedicated, highly focused Non-Invasive team working to provide and maintain a high standard of healthcare to patients on all wards and peripheral hospitals within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The postholder will support the Non-Invasive Cardiac Physiology Service at STHT by providing a high standard of work within their expert field that meets organisational, professional, and individual needs for the Diagnostic Cardiology Unit. They will deputise for the non-invasive and education leads and will provide leadership, training and education  in the  non-invasive service, responding to changing needs.

Main duties of the job

  • To support the Non-Invasive Cardiac Physiology Service at STHT, providing a high standard of work within their expert field that meets organisational, professional, and individual needs for the Diagnostic Cardiology Unit.
  • Undertake and support all non-invasive investigations as required.
  • Provide leadership, training and education in the clinical areas, enabling staff to develop the clinical skills and competencies required delivering a high-quality non-invasive service, responsive to changing needs.
  • Deliver training sessions to students, trainees and new staff members on in-house training programs.
  • Work alongside other members of the team to deliver in-house non-invasive physiology training.
  • Liaise effectively with the Non-Invasive Service Manager to ensure that departmental guidelines are maintained and up to date in line with current with current clinical practice and national guidelines.
  • Help develop specialist services and participate in other CPD activities to maintain own competencies.
  • Offer support to students and trainees
  • Flexible in the way they work and to undertake any task assigned to them that they have been trained for.
  • Responsible for initiating regular clinical audit activities, research and development and equipment evaluation.
  • To share responsibility with other members of the Non-Invasive team for ensuring the delivery and safe running of the service.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MSc Clinical Science (Cardiac, Vascular, Respiratory and Sleep Sciences) or other relevant Level 7 academic qualification or BTEC / HNC in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurements or BSc in Clinical Physiology with relevant experience and ability to demonstrate working at Masters / Academic Level 7 level
  • SCST parts I & II (if applicable to qualification route)
  • Registration with RCCP, AHCS or HCPC
  • Teaching Qualification level 3 or above or ability to demonstrate training experience at the equivalent level.
  • Basic Life Support
  • Demonstrate Continual Professional Development
Desirable criteria
  • Registered as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience performing Non-Invasive Diagnostic Tests to a high standard and according to National and local guidelines.
  • Experience in providing specialised, unsupervised diagnostic reports to an appropriate level and highlight urgent findings.
  • Ability to deliver hands on training and support junior members of staff, Specialist Registrars or other medical professionals as required
  • Experience of providing a wide range of non-invasive investigations
  • Experience in leadership supervision and assessment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience delivering research, audit or service improvement projects
  • Appraisal Training
  • Leadership and Management courses

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, carers, colleagues and other healthcare professionals
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal skills
  • Excellent IT skills and computer literacy to a high level
  • Experience of working with NHS software systems
  • Experience of training students, junior staff and other healthcare professionals
