We are delighted to advertise this varied and innovative fixed term post primarily within the Major Trauma and Burns psychology services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (STHFT). Main duties of the job

 

This post will work into the Major Trauma and Burns psychology services, working with both inpatients and outpatients. There will be opportunities for MDT working, providing supervision and training along with guidance to the wider staff group. There is potential to have a far-reaching positive impact, making a huge difference to outcomes and quality of life for patients. There may also be opportunities to work with patients with other physical health conditions.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.

Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 7 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 8a.

Please also note if appointed at Band 7, this will be a development role with progression to the Band 8a role upon successful completion of the in-house preceptorship programme and demonstration of the required competencies.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • (Band 8a) Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), or counselling psychology as accredited by the HCPC, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the British Psychological Society.
  • (Band 7 & 8a) Professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • (Band 7 & 8a) Eligible for Practitioner Full Membership of the BPS Divisions of Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or working towards this- for band 7)
  • (Band 7) Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), or counselling psychology as accredited by the HCPC, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the British Psychological Society. Will consider recently qualified applicants..

Experience

  • (Band 8a) Significant experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, and in-patient settings.
  • (Band 8a) Significant experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups including with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • (Band 8a) Significant experience of representing psychology within the context of multidisciplinary care

Further Training

Essential criteria
  • (Band 8a) Further specialist training / experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a clinical or counselling psychologist over a minimum of 24 months.
  • (Band 7 & 8a) Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical or counselling fields of psychology.
  • (Band 7 & 8a) Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC
  • (Band 8a) Formal training in supervision of other psychological practitioners.
Desirable criteria
  • (Band 7) Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g., personality disorder, chronic or terminal illness, complex psychological or physical problems, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc).
  • (Band 7) High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological or psychotherapeutic approach
