Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pharmacy Technician to join the Community Agile Pharmacy Service (CAPS). CAPS plays a significant role in supporting patients following a hospital discharge or to prevent avoidable admissions during periods of acute illness.

The team supports staff and patients within Active Recovery, Community Nursing, Virtual Wards, Community Therapy and the Community Stroke Service.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work closely with patients, relatives and carers to help optimise individualised medication regimens. Our goal is to support patients to reach an appropriate level of independence with their medicines and to support healthcare professionals gain insight into medicines management as part of a holistic assessment process.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ L3 and/or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • GPhC Registered
  • Accuracy Checking Technician course or willing to work towards
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of formal teaching course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in primary, secondary or intermediate care
  • Experience of undertaking 0-2 medication reviews
  • Previous experience of patient counselling
  • Previous experience of providing patient focused medicines management services
  • Good clinical knowledge of medication management relevant legislation and good practice related to storage and handling of pharmaceuticals.
  • Up-to-date pharmaceutical and medicines management knowledge
  • Understanding of medicines related issues in intermediate care
  • Able to supervise junior staff and assess competency and best practice
  • Experience of managing conflict with occasional aggressive patients and relatives
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in community services, community pharmacy or primary care
  • Experience of audit and project work

  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development via personal development plans/file
Desirable criteria
  • Certificate in professional development for pharmacy technicians

  • The duties of this post require travelling throughout the city on a daily basis; therefore the post holder must be independently mobile. (Adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act)
