We are excited to advertise this great opportunity of becoming the Senior Fertility Counsellor of the Assisted Conception Unit (ACU), The Jessop Wing, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (STHFT).

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The Senior Fertility Counsellor leads the specialist fertility counselling service of the Assisted Conception Unit  (ACU). The counsellors work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that regulatory requirements in relation to donation, surrogacy and general counselling needs are met.

This includes providing implications counselling to those who are considering, undertaking or have undertaken assisted conception, donation, surrogacy or storage procedures. This in addition to providing therapeutic and supportive counselling, as needed by those whose infertility, circumstances, treatment, donation, and /or outcomes give rise to particular difficulties or distress.

As the Senior Counsellor you would play an active role in the wider ACU service, attending and contributing to ACU Board meetings, MDT meetings, senior staff meetings and all ethics committee meetings. The Senior Counsellor is also responsible for ensuring the Counselling Service meets statutory, national, regional and Trust standards of care.

The department has strong links with the Sheffield, Leeds and Hull DClinPsy courses.  We also offer placements to trainees on DCounsPsy courses.

Education and Qualifications

  • A psychotherapy or counselling qualification to advanced diploma level or above, accredited by the BACP, NCPS, UKCP, or BABCP
  • Accredited member of BACP, UKCP, NCPS or BABCP
  • Accredited Member (AMBICA) of the British Infertility Counselling Association (BICA)
  • Evidence of continuing education and professional development to recognised required standards
  • Senior Accredited Member (SAMBICA) of the British Infertility Counselling Association (BICA) or commitment to obtaining within the first 2 years of employment in post

  • Degree or Master’s degree
  • Post-qualification training in approaches and therapies appropriate for an HFEA Licensed Treatment Centre

Experience

  • Extensive post-qualification supervised counselling or psychotherapy practice working face to face, online and by telephone
  • Proven experience of working with complex presentations (e.g. fertility grief, treatment distress, trauma)
  • A proven interest in the specialist area of fertility, including the provision of implementations counselling with up to date knowledge of legislation
  • Experience of undertaking psychotherapeutic interventions appropriate to fertility-related treatments and conditions
  • Undertaking highly specialist assessments in the context of considering the Welfare of the Child in the area of fertility treatment.
  • Experience of providing counselling / psychotherapy supervision (individual or group)
  • Working with a wide variety of patient groups presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of working therapeutically and providing implications counselling to individuals, couples and groups (e.g. in planned surrogacy arrangements)
  • Experience of working with people seeking fertility preservation

  • Experience providing later counselling for donors, parents and donor conceived people
